Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools Partners with Association of American Educators
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- The Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools (FCPCS) today announced a partnership with the Association of American Educators (AAE), based in Mission Viejo, CA. The partnership will expand professional benefits available to employees of charter schools in Florida which are members of FCPCS.
AAE is the nation’s largest non-union, professional educators' organization. A membership-based organization, it offers benefits that include professional liability insurance, legal assistance, scholarship and grant opportunities, professional development opportunities, supplementary insurance policies and more. Professional membership is open to any employee of an educational entity and includes teachers, para-professionals, counselors, school psychologists and school administrators. The cost per individual is $16.50 per month, or $198 annually. Student teachers, retired educators, and associate members may join at a reduced rate of $25 annually.
The two organizations also announced that FCPCS President Robert Haag has joined AAE’s National Advisory Board of Directors.
“AAE believes, as we do, that public charter schools are a vital component of the education reform movement,” said Haag. “Working with AAE to spread the word about professional benefits will further strengthen the charter school movement in Florida.”
Haag also noted the recent launch of “Teachers for Charter Schools,” a free membership organization and online resource for teachers who work at or wish to work at Florida charter schools. FCPCS recently unveiled the new program and Web site as part of a statewide rollout of the program to members of Florida’s education community, as well as to prospective teachers. Teachers may join, free of charge, at www.teachersforcharterschools.org.
Visitors to the site can also geographically locate charter schools where they can apply for teaching jobs. The site also encourages teachers and prospects to sign up for a free Teachers Newsletter.
The Web site also features an active tab to FCPCS’ innovative teacher and principal training program, the “Florida Principal & Teacher Training Academy,” with links to online professional development courses and other training tools for both teachers and administrators at FCPCS member schools. Once participants complete the course, they can apply for recertification directly through the Florida Department of Education’s Bureau of Educator Certification.
