Student Leadership Academy in Venice has been named among Florida’s best schools, according to the 2015 Niche Ranking. Consistently rated an “A” school, the public charter school was named a “High Performing Charter School” by the Florida Department of Education.

In Florida, hundreds of activities and celebrations took place including a School Choice Week kick off in Jacksonville with more than 2,000 in attendance. The formal session of the 2015 Florida Legislature does not begin until March 3rd, however, legislators have already begun to file bills, and committees and subcommittees of both the House and the Senate began holding meetings on January 5th. Those that operate charter schools know that districts have a lot of power over charter schools. For instance, the application process allows a district to review a charter sch application and make a decision based on a number of aspects. They also have the power to check in on a charter school any time, and review financials on a monthly basis. However, districts like to tell media that they're helpless and are just now taking action. While the spin from the districts continue, we know that they allowed many of the recently closed charter schools to open even though they did not have a C.O., and were operating in buildings not zoned for a school.
