Passport Charter Students Win 2nd Place in Solar Challenge
PASSPORT CHARTER STUDENTS WIN 2ND PLACE IN SOLAR CAR COMPETITION
ORLANDO, FL - Passport Charter School students won second place at the Junior Solar Sprint competition held at the Florida Solar Energy Center on May 3, 2014.
Hundreds of elementary and middle school students (grades 4-8) from around the state participated -- designing, building and racing Junior Solar Sprint cars. The small model cars, powered entirely by solar energy and steered by wires, were built as team efforts guided by teachers. This event was part of the EnergyWhiz Olympics where hundreds of students participated in renewable energy themed events. According to the Florida Solar Energy Center website, “the Junior Solar Sprint offer students several opportunities to demonstrate the performance of their vehicles. At each event cars are judged on technology, craftsmanship and appearance. Each car then competes in the track portion of the event. Vehicles race until three winning teams in each category are determined.”
