Ruth Jefferson named Champion Principal of the Year

PRINCIPAL FROM INDIAN RIVER COUNTY NAMED 2014 PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR

Three years ago, the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools (FCPCS) – the state’s leading charter school support and advocacy organization – began honoring Charter Schools Champions. These are people who are making a significant impact in their communities, and on the state’s education system, through their work with or at a charter school.

School Leaders, Legislators, Teachers, governing board members, District Superintendents and charter school vendors were recognized at the event.

Ruth Jefferson, Principal of St. Peter’s Preparatory Academy in Gifford, FL (Indian River County), was named Charter Schools Champion Principal of the year. Known as a passionate educator who is compassionate, supportive, and approachable, Mrs. Jefferson is head of a top-performing “A” school that serves at-risk students.

"The principal has one of the toughest jobs around," said Robert Haag, FCPCS President. "It's important to recognize the work that charter school school leaders do and honor those individuals that are doing it incredibly well."

The Charter School Champion Awards ceremony took place on November 19th in Orlando, FL during the 18th annual state charter schools conference.
