Jan 30, 2013
TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Rick Scott Wednesday said his proposed budget for next year will include a $1.2 billion increase in education that will raise the per pupil spending from $6,386 to $6,800.
The increase will also include $480 million that Scott previously announced would go to giving all teachers a $2,500 pay raise.
“Teachers change lives,” Scott said in a brief speech to reporters and editors.
Florida schools are expected to have 30,000 new students next fall. Scott was unclear whether the increase would go beyond the new money needed to cover the growth in students.
He is expected to unveil his full budget tomorrow afternoon.
