“Ranking in the top ten percent speaks to the spirit of teamwork and the support of a school by the community it serves,” stated Florida Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson in a congratulatory letter to Somerset Academy Davie Principal, Dina Miller.
In September, Somerset Academy Davie was named a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School by U.S. Department of Education for making significant progress educating children, especially disadvantaged and minority students. The National Blue Ribbon School award honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students achieve at high levels or where the achievement gap is narrowing.
For close to a decade, Somerset Academy Davie, a K-5 public charter school, has helped students make academic gains. Located at 3788 Davie Road in the City of Davie, Somerset Academy has earned three consecutive “A” grades from the state and ranks among the highest-performing public elementary school in Broward County (based on the points received under the State of Florida Accountability Program). The 2010-11 score released by DOE in May 2010, shows that 100 perfect of the 4th grade students at Somerset Academy Davie earned a 3 or above on the FCAT Writing and Mathematics.
