SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. – Two Sarasota County charter schools are ranked in the top ten among 591 public middle schools in Florida for 2017, according to the independent website “Niche,” which analyzes multiple data sources and ranks schools throughout the United States.

According to Niche, Sarasota School of Arts and Sciences ranks second among all public middle schools in Florida, while Student Leadership Academy in Venice, Fla., ranks fourth. Both are charter schools chartered by the Sarasota County School District. Niche also ranked the Sarasota County School District fourth among the 67 school districts in Florida.

Both Sarasota School of Arts and Sciences and Student Leadership Academy are members of the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools (FCPCS), which applauded their top rankings.

“FCPCS salutes the fine work of teachers, administrators and students at these two top-ten public Florida middle schools, said FCPCS President Robert Haag. “It’s not only an honor for the two schools, but also an excellent way for prospective students and their parents to choose the best schools for application and enrollment.”

Niche is billed as “a website that helps people discover the schools and neighborhoods that are right for them.” Based in Pittsburgh, Pa., Niche ranks more than 80,000 U.S. public schools ranging from kindergarten to twelfth grade, as well as 10,000 public school districts throughout the nation.

Niche analyzes data from multiple sources, including the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Census and the FBI, based on factors such as academics, teachers, and culture and diversity. It also analyzes “millions of reviews from students and parents,” according to the Niche website, which says the organization is made up of data scientists, engineers and parents.
