Association of American Educators (AAE)

AAE, the Association of American Educators, was established in 1994 by nationally recognized educators who saw the need for a professional teachers organization that provides the benefits and services that educators want without an emphasis on partisan politics. AAE is a nonprofit, nonunion, pro-charter schools association offering most of the benefits the teacher unions provide but at a fraction of the cost.

FCPCS endorses AAE as an excellent and economical way for charter school teachers to secure liability insurance coverage and legal protection from lawsuits that might threaten their career.

AAE's annual membership fee is $198 For only $16.50 per month, AAE members receive a personal $2,000,000 liability insurance policy, access to legal counsel at the onset of potential legal problems, additional discounts on supplemental insurance benefit plans, a monthly newsletter covering the cutting edge of the teaching profession, and more.

Members are also eligible for professional development scholarships and classroom grants. The application process is simple and charter school teachers are encouraged to apply.

American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (The American Board)

Founded in 2001 to help qualified professionals transition into the classroom, the American Board has certified over 6,000 students teaching in 13 states, and internationally.

Enabling proven professionals to transition into a career in education, we are constantly working to combat the critical teacher shortage that exists now and is expected to continue to increase in the years to come. The National Center for Education Statistics predicts a 10.3% increase of students in Florida schools by 2025, highlighting the need for our program to continue its urgent work to train new teachers in local communities.

Those holding a bachelor’s degree can work towards state licensure gained through passing the American Board’s Professional Teaching Knowledge (PTK) pedagogy exam, and subject area exam, covering the core content and grade range in which they’ll be teaching.

American Board provides the essential study material to successfully prepare for both exams, and is offered fully online. Students have a year to prepare, take, and pass both exams, and upon passing both exams, Floridian students will receive their Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) issued Temporary Teaching Certificate and Statement of Eligibility.

Students can then be hired by any public or charter school throughout the State of Florida. The student’s first year teaching will include standard observation hours, professional development, and the Florida Professional Education Competence Program, all of which are offered through their school. After the student’s first year teaching, they will then receive the state issued, Florida Professional Certificate. Students can also use American Board to transition their already earned Temporary Teaching Certificate from the FLDOE into the Professional Certificate.
